Arrest Made in Umatilla County Shooting Case

Umatilla County – On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at approximately 6:25 p.m., Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Travis Laib, 35-year-old from Pendleton, on the felony charges of Assault I, Felon in Possession of a Weapon, and Unlawful use of a Weapon (felony), and the misdemeanor charges of Menacing and Reckless Endangering.

The arrest stems from an incident that occurred on Friday, January 6th, 2023, at approximately 04:14 am, in which a UCSO deputy responded to St. Anthony Hospital for a report of a 35-year-old male (from Pendleton) that had come into the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the arm. The victim was Life-Flighted to OHSU, where he underwent surgery, resulting in a partial amputation of his right arm.

At the time of the initial incident, Travis Laib was identified by investigators as a person of interest. UCSO detectives, in cooperation with the Umatilla County District Attorney’s office, continued an active investigation which resulted in Laib’s arrest last night. Laib was lodged at the Umatilla County Jail and remains in custody at the time of this release.
