Eastern Takes First Dual of 2023

By Adam Orr

La Grande, Ore.- (Release from Eastern Oregon University Athletics) The Mountaineers were back in action for the first time in 2023 and picked up right where they left off. EOU took on Grays Harbor College and ultimately came out victorious, winning the dual 33-19 behind four Mountie pins.

Eastern Oregon came out hot as Adrian Guevara set the tone winning by pin at the 2:54 mark of the match. Eastern dropped the 133-pound match but bounced back in a big way as Travis Sherman of the 141-pound division won handily by pin at the 2:47 mark of the match. The Chockers of Grays Harbor did not go away as they were able to take the 149-pound match, but then a string of five match wins in a row which was capped off by two more pins allowed Eastern to pull away with the dual. Keegan Mulhill of the 174-pound division took his match by pin at the 4:50 mark of the match. This win for Mulhill marks his 99th career win as a Mountaineer. The Mountaineers capped off the night with a Kyle Knudtson pin at the 3:22 mark of the match.

Eastern will be back in action Friday, Jan. 13 as they take the University of Providence at Quinn Coliseum in La Grande, Ore. Match time is set for 5:00 p.m.
