La Grande, Ore. – (Release from Eastern Oregon University Athletics) The Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers capped off a 2-0 weekend with a dominant win over Evergreen State College. Adam Orr etched his name in the record books for the second-best shooting performance from beyond the arc in school history knocking down nine three balls to lead Eastern to a 118-68 victory over the Geoducks. With the win, the Mountaineers move to 11-4 on the year and 8-1 in CCC play. The loss moves Evergreen to 1-10 overall and 1-8 in CCC play.
The first half saw the Mountaineers come out firing. Malatare paced the Mounties through the half doing a little bit of everything with 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Adam Orr set the foundation for his big night taking seven three-pointers and connecting on three. Eastern went ahead by as much as 18 with 8:51 on the clock after an Emmit Taylor three-pointer. Evergreen stayed in it thanks to a spark off the bench in Deondre Russ who scored 11 points in 12 minutes. Tyler Williford also helped shoulder the load with 10. At the half, the Mounties lead 52-39.
After the break, Adam Orr took over putting up 22 points on his way to a team and personal season-high 31. The grad transfer seemingly couldn’t miss going 8-11 in the second half and 6-9 from three. Starting at the 16:24 mark in the second half Orr went on a 9-3 run by himself connecting from deep on three straight possessions. He continued to pour it on through the second half and ended his season-high night with a transition three to give the Mounties their biggest lead of the night. His final bucket put Eastern up 54 with a minute and twenty seconds to go. EOU closed it out to take the 118-68 victory, their largest margin of victory of the year.
Eastern hits the road for the next two weeks. Up next is Corban University on Friday, Jan. 14. The Mountaineers will take on the Warriors at 7:30 p.m. in Salem.
