CORVALLIS, Ore.- (Release from Eastern Oregon University Athletics) Eastern Oregon University Women’s Basketball was named Under Armour Team of the Week by the Cascade Collegiate Conference on Sunday. The Mounties had an incredible weekend going 2-0 in CCC play while knocking off the number one team in the conference and No. 9 ranked team in the nation, Lewis-Clark State College.
“I’m really proud of our team,” Head Coach Anji Weissenfluh said. “After back-to-back long road trips, I am proud of the resilience they showed to come out on top of a tough CCC matchup this week.”
Friday afternoon the Mounties took care of business against Walla Walla handling the Wolves easily, 79-62. Shaelie Burgess and Bayley Brennan led the way scoring 15 each on the afternoon.
The following evening resulted in the Mounties biggest win of the year as they took down the No. 9 ranked Lewis-Clark State College Warriors in an overtime battle. After going down 27-12 in the first quarter, Eastern came back in epic fashion tying it up with just over a minute to go in regulation. A dominant overtime performance by Beverly Slater helped lead the Mounties to an 85-79 victory. The win puts the Mounties and Warriors together at the top of the CCC standings.
Eastern will hit the road this coming weekend taking on Multnomah and Warner Pacific. The Mounties are slated to take on Multnomah at 5:30 p.m. on Friday night followed by a 3 p.m. tipoff against Warner Pacific on Saturday.
