Mounties Climb to No. 16 in Rankings

By Dawson Forcella, SID

Kansas City, Mo. – (Release from Eastern Oregon University Athletics) Eastern Oregon University Women’s Basketball has moved up in the latest NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Released Wednesday morning, the Mountaineers jumped from No. 20 to No. 16 in the rankings.
Since the last ranking the Mounties are 7-1. In those eight games, their only loss came in a nail-biter to No. 10 Lewis-Clark State College. As the Mounties continue to ascend the rankings, the numbers back up Eastern’s claim as one of the top teams in the nation, especially on offense. EOU currently ranks in the top 10 in field goal percentage (tenth), three-point percentage (fifth), and assists per game (sixth). The Mounties also rank fourth in the nation in rebound margin as they have outrebounded teams by 13.2 rebounds per game.
Eastern will take their fresh No. 16 ranking into a weekend slate of games against Corban and Bushnell. The Mounties will take on Corban at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in Salem followed by a 3 p.m. tilt against Bushnell in Eugene.
