Mounties Drop Wednesday Matinee Against Gonzaga

By Dawson Forcella, SID

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers took a step away from conference play to take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs Wednesday afternoon in an exhibition. Currently ranked No. 10 in the NCAA Division I AP Top 25, the Bulldogs handled the Mounties with ease in The Kennel taking the win 120-42.
While the Mountaineers showed some fight early, Gonzaga pulled away thanks to 18 points from Bulldog standout Drew Timme who moved into fifth all-time in scoring for Gonzaga. The Mountaineers were led by Malachi Afework who was the only Mountaineer to hit double digits in scoring on the day with 11 points on four of nine shooting.
Eastern will turn the page and look to Friday’s conference matchup with Lewis-Clark State. Eastern currently sits a game above LC State in the CCC standings. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
