La Grande, Ore. – (Release from Eastern Oregon University Athletics) Eastern Oregon was back in action Wednesday as they took on the Geoducks of Evergreen State College to open the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament. The Mounties rolled to a commanding victory, 87-49, propelled by a 24-8 first quarter.
EOU jumped out to an early lead, starting the game on a 12-0 run sparked by a pair of Sailor Liefke three’s. The Mountaineers controlled the pace for all of the first quarter as the Geoducks struggled to find a groove. Eastern held a comfortable lead after the first quarter of play, 24-8.
As the second quarter started Evergreen found a bit of success. Sparked by a pair of Geoducks, Paris Wilson and Caitlin Yenne, who both contributed seven first half points. Despite finding a bit of success, EOU led TESC by a score of 39-22 at the half. Leifke carried her hot hand into the second quarter, finishing the half with 13 points, going a perfect 5-5 from the field while adding three three pointers.
After the halftime break, Eastern came out looking to take over and that is exactly what they did. Outsourcing the Geoducks 23-12, extending their lead to 62-34. The Mounties’ hot shooting propelled them in the third quarter. Eastern shot 9-14, 64%, in the quarter to Evergreen’s 5-15.
Eastern carried their momentum into the fourth quarter, closing out the Geoducks 87-49, after a 25-15 final quarter. EOU had three players go perfect from the field tonight as Sailor Leifke continued her excellent first half finishing 7-7 from the field adding 18 total points. Adyson Harris-Shaw added 10 points on a 4-4 shooting performance and Sydney Zeiler added 8 points going 3-3 from the field.
Eastern will be back in action at home on Saturday, Feb. 25 as they take No. 4-seeded Oregon Tech. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Quinn Coliseum
