Umatilla County – (Release from Oregon State Police) On February 15, 2023, an OSP Trooper, out of the Hermiston worksite, came across two vehicles speed racing on Highway 395 in a 55-mph zone. One vehicle was checked with front radar at 126 mph, while the second was checked at 119 mph. The Trooper was only successful in stopping one of the two vehicles.
The driver admitted to speeding and racing at over 120 mph. The driver was cited for VBR 100+mph, which carries a fine of $1,150.00, and Speed racing, which carries a fine of $440.00.
Speed increases impact and impact increases injury. Impact speed is found to have a highly significant positive relationship to the risk of serious injury or fatality during crashes.
