Real ID requirements take effect May 2023, Are you ready?

Oregon Department of Transportation

Starting in May 2023, you will need more than a standard Oregon driver’s license or ID card to go through airport security. That’s when TSA starts enforcing ID requirements at airport security checkpoints nationwide.

To board a plane even for domestic flights, you will need one of the following: a Real ID driver’s license or ID card, a valid passport, another federally acceptable ID (listed on TSA’s website).

Does your driver’s license expire in the next 12 months? Look at your driver’s license or ID card expiration date today. You can renew it up to 12 months early, add the Real ID option now and get ahead of crowds expected in 2023.

This requirement affects all flight travel, including in-state air travel. Don’t get caught off guard by a wedding invitation or an emergency that requires a flight. It can take weeks to get the ID you’ll need to board a plane. Consider getting the Oregon Real ID option now, especially if your license is less than a year from expiration.

Find out what you need to take to DMV at Oregon.gov/RealID and make sure to ask your family and friends if they have the ID they’ll need to board a plane.
