La Grande, Ore. – (Release From Union County Emergency Services) This morning a Union Pacific non-emergent train derailment occurred in La Grande near Adams Avenue and Island Avenue. The incident is being addressed and the railroad has stated that there are no leaks or spills of hazmat materials associated with this incident.
The derailment has resulted in several railroad crossings that may be closed for an extended period of time today including Cherry, Greenwood, and Fir. Please avoid the area and allow extra travel time to reach your destination.
Union Pacific Railroad is working to address the situation as quickly as possible in order to allow for train passage and to open the crossings.
Union Pacific is maintaining contact with Emergency Services and will provide updates as they become available.
