Wallowa County – (Release from Wallowa School District) Monday, November 14th, there are a couple of opportunities for families and the community to provide input in directions for the district. These opportunities follow the two surveys you have participated in over the last few weeks, extending the opportunities for partnership and input.
On Monday, November 14th at 5:00 p.m., the Wallowa School Board will host a Community Listening Session. This listening session is a part of our comprehensive needs assessment. Your input in the session will result in a comprehensive written plan for the district and inform the budgets of several programs. This year, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) is integrating and aligning six separately created federal and state investments focused on educational innovation and improvement. Those six programs include High School Success (HSS), Student Investment Account (SIA), Continuous Improvement Planning (CIP), Career and Technical Education (CTE), Every Day Matters (EDM), and Early Indicator Intervention Systems (EIIS). These six programs are aligned under four goals:
Equity Advancement: Addressing the disparity in academic success and student well-being based upon both poverty and race, resulting in a richer and more meaningful learning experience.
Engaged Community: Deepening relationships, partnerships, and engagement with communities is critical to achieve equitable outcomes and build healthy school and district systems.
Well-Rounded Education: Essential knowledge and skills students need to be successful in life.
Strengthen Systems and Capacity to Ensure Learning.
In addition to the Community Listening Session, in the regular Wallowa School Board meeting that follows, the board will be taking action on the qualities and qualifications desired in the new Wallowa School District Superintendent. There will be time set aside for public comment specifically on this topic. The board will also be talking about the superintendent search screening committee that evening. After the meeting, the position will be advertised and November 17th the district will begin taking applications, with the plan to hire in March.
